about

CATÁBASE is an experimental animated short film made for college. It follows an ever-evolving character in distinct, equally changing scenarios. It features a variety of visual styles, from texture-based animation to digital cut-out animation incorporating photographs and hand drawings, and is mostly inspired by dreams and nightmares I had.

I began working on this project in March 2023, when college had begun for me that year. Originally, the film was going to be way shorter than it actually is, and so would be its soundtrack. By July 2023, I planned on expanding the project and developing a much more complex film. The final product wound up lasting near 10 minutes in length, featuring many different styles of animation and a diverse soundtrack.

The soundtrack features contributions from friends of mine, some of which I had previously collaborated with on projects such as 2022's Poemas. The process wasn't too distant from that album's, so assembling the soundtrack was pretty fun to do. It was a great callback to a type of project I hadn't made since the release of Poemas, and something that I plan on continuing on following projects.

The film is set to release December 5th, 2023.
